Why So Many Learners Never Move Beyond "Survival Spanish"
Most learners:
-
✔ Can “get by” in Spanish but still freeze in real conversations
✔ Understand more than they can confidently say
✔ Avoid conversations because they’re afraid they won’t understand
✔ Wait until they feel “ready” before participating more fully
✔ Have to mentally translate before speaking
✔ Feel like an outsider even after months or years of study
In Beyond Survival Spanish, you’ll discover why more study isn’t always the answer—and how to start turning Spanish into real participation, connection, and confidence.
Define the life you want to participate in. Then build the Spanish to support it.
Prepare → Practice → Present
Most learners study Spanish and hope it eventually helps them in real life.
We start with real life first.
Together, we identify the conversations you want to have, the situations you want to navigate, and the life you want to participate in.
Then we help you:
Prepare for those conversations.
Practice them in a supportive environment.
Present them in real life.
This creates confidence faster because you’re always working toward something you genuinely want to say.
You won't be learning alone
Behind every lesson, live class, and conversation practice session is a full support team of real people who genuinely care about your progress. We’re here to help you stay consistent, feel confident, and actually use your Spanish in real life.

What Our Students Say

Omur, MD, PhD
Learning Spanish for travel and literature
“Six weeks into the Elevate program, I had a 25-minute conversation in Spanish with the taxi driver! We even talked about the Argentine economy. It was unbelievable!”

Alanna
Learning Spanish for travel and everyday conversations
“I initiated a conversation with a stranger! It’s been so rewarding. I’ve learned so much about myself each time I conquer a new challenge—and conquer a fear.”

Karin
Learning Spanish for life in Mexico
“The most important thing was getting over the ‘deer in the headlights’ feeling. Before, I had to think, ‘Okay, now I have to speak Spanish,’ and now I just reply.”

Carolyn
Learning Spanish for communication with patients and friends
“I have a lot of friends I’ve met from around the world, and now I can communicate more easily. I’m not as frustrated or always looking for a translator. It finally hit me that I’m really comprehending now.”

Pamela
Learning Spanish for communication with Guatemalan family members
“Before, I didn’t even want to say hello to anybody because I was afraid it would turn into a whole conversation I couldn’t handle. Elevate is the only program I’ve ever done where I feel like it’s doable—and the results are huge.”

Erik
Learning Spanish to connect with local Spanish speakers
“Unlike other programs, CCC is structured and gives clear guidance. My favorite part is that I’m able to practice what I learn. Recently I was able to communicate with a potential employee 100% in Spanish and didn’t even need to ask them to repeat!”
About Erica Ray
Hi, I’m Erica, founder of Erica Ray Language. I’ve been living abroad in Mexico with my family for over a decade and love helping learners prepare for real conversations in Spanish-speaking communities. I’m a certified Spanish teacher and language coach from Kentucky. I’m also a wife and mamá of three. I’m endlessly fascinated by language, culture, and the way communication brings people together.
I learned fluent Spanish while still in the United States, outside of the traditional school system, and long before ever living abroad. I’ve been working professionally with Spanish since 2007, with experience in interpretation, translation, teaching, curriculum development, and language coaching.
I’m here to share practical, conversation-centered language-learning methods that actually work—while also giving you a real glimpse into the richness, warmth, and everyday culture of Mexico.
